We’re seeking a passionate and resourceful Student Support Specialist to join our team. This is a fully remote, asynchronous role that emphasizes building positive student relationships, coaching student growth, monitoring progress, and managing records and data. Specialists also maintain a secondary role in engagement, teaching, or administrative duties depending on their expertise and background. As a MOHS Student Support Specialist, you will be integral in shaping the community for our students, parents, teachers, and staff.
A Day in the Role:
Facilitate regular synchronous group interventions to foster student success
Assist in the development of programs and resources to support students on an individual basis or in group settings
Manage academic interventions for students demonstrating inadequate progress, as well as for students requiring additional academic supports such as accommodations, modifications to academic plans, etc.
Hold regular meetings with students and families to develop plans and strategies for academic improvement
Assist students in setting realistic, achievable goals and monitor their progress towards these goals
Monitor student grades, progress, and other relevant data to identify trends and areas for academic support and intervention
Determine appropriate student interventions and recommendations based on the student’s prior performance, intervention history, learning challenges, and our established intervention plan
Build relationships with students and families to establish trust and create a safe environment
Provide regular updates to the academic counseling team and school administrators on student progress and intervention outcomes
Consult with the academic counseling team to target students most in need of intervention support
Suggest improvements to the school's policies, services, and overall efficacy based on data and intervention experiences
Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of student progress, interventions, and outcomes, maintaining confidentiality and objectivity where appropriate
When necessary, discuss unenrollment with families and provide unenrollment recommendations to MOHS administration, all with an intent for the student’s best interests
Coach and provide best practice guidance to advising staff on intervention strategies and student support
Work collaboratively with teachers, advisors, academic counselors, and other school staff to support student success
Work toward solutions for the challenges of online learning environments while leveraging the unique opportunities specific to it
Understand the importance and value of intervention work, maintaining professional objectivity to assess the effectiveness of interventions
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in online education and student intervention
Demonstrate willingness to support or step into other roles during times of busy seasons or times of light intervention need

Schedule
MOHS Student Support Specialists are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.
Availability during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in a U.S. timezone (ET, CT, MT, or PT) is required.
Job requirements
At least two years of proven experience in middle and/or high school academic interventions
Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education, psychology, or a related field
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff
Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of a developing online school environment
Adept at learning new online tools and comfortable working in an online environment
The ideal candidate brings
Experience supporting students with specific learning needs, particularly in an online setting
Experience in other areas of education, such as teaching, curriculum development, assessment design, or assessment administration
Experience with neurodiversity-affirming practices
Proficiency in Google Suite and/or Airtable
Compensation & Benefits
The expected starting pay range is $27.73 - $33.55 per hour. Student Support Specialists at MiaPrep Online High School work an average of 40 hours per week. When working year-round, this can equate to an annual pay range of $57,678 - $69,784.
Miaplaza’s compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering the regional differences in living and labor costs. Specific rates will be provided during the hiring process and are aligned with market data and internal equity.
Compensation is evaluated twice per year, based on performance.

PTO is all-purpose time off, and combines traditional vacation and paid sick leave plans into one flexible, inclusive policy. Eligible employees can use PTO for all kinds of absences including: vacation, holidays, illness, injury, family leave, and other personal business. Full-time employees receive 16 hours of floating holiday PTO per quarter and accumulate additional PTO at the rate of 1 hour per every 17 hours worked. Annually, this amounts to approximately 122 hours per year or 15 eight-hour days on average.
